Resources for Federal Candidate

The importance of Voter Engagement

Voter engagement of Canadians has been on a steady decline since the 1990’s. Last summer I started investigating voter turnout within Canada as a Data Science project and discovered not only a wealth of hidden data but a disturbing truth. At the Federal level voter turnout could range from the mid 70’s to less than 40%. Even worst, there is often a 20% difference between adjacent Electoral Districts.

If you are interested you can explore this data on my original Dashboard. Canadian Voter Turnout 2000-2021

During my exploration of public data I have been able to compile some powerful data to assist in voter engagement. My long term goal is to create an online portal where the average person can easily access this data in a readable format. However at this critical time it is more important to make this data accessible rather than wait for an online product.

I have 2 data products available, a historical poll by poll account of party votes and voter turnout by individual Riding, 2013 Electoral Districts. This is from public data downloaded from Elections Canada. In addition to a 2 page report containing key demographics of the 2023 Electoral Districts. Data downloaded from Statistics Canada for the 2021 census.

Learn more about each data product and see the actual files for Nunavut. I decided to share this District as it had a turnout of only 34% last federal election.

Due to the limited time and urgency I am going old school, if you are interested in either product please email me at lori@notageek.ca advising the data product/s you are interested in and which Districts. I will then manually send you an invoice and payment link via the Stripe platform, a Canadian company based in Vancouver.

My goal is to complete orders within 24 hours as I understand how time sensitive this information is, however it is just myself so please be patient. If you have any questions don’t hesitant to reach me at lori@notageek.ca

Detailed Demographics by Electoral District

Data downloaded from Statistics Canada from 2021 Census

We all know that the only poll that matters is the votes that make it to the ballot box. With this in mind it is critical to understand the various communities within your Electoral District. The last few years has seen the addition of 5 Districts and the realignments of over 200 more. This combined with the mass internal migration caused by the affects of the cost of living, immigration and Covid, your Electoral District may hold surprises within the population.

To help better understand your community I have created a 2 page report with key population metrics including household make up and income to employment and education.

If you are interested in purchasing a report for your District please email me at lori@notageek. Each report is $199 +GST and if you are interested in the poll by poll breakdown it can be added for $50 +GST per report.

I have included a copy of the Nunavut below for you to download and explore. All data is from the 2021 Canadian Census. I have also provided a list of all of the Electoral Districts if you aren’t completely sure of the full name.

Poll by Poll formatted data

Using the public data from Elections Canada I have created a 3 file dataset containing a formatted Excel file with Pivot tables and 2 CSV files that can be imported into Google Sheets or other software for analysis if you do not have access to Excel. These files contain detailed poll results for the last 3 Federal Elections.(2015, 2019 & 2021)

I have provided screenshots and a sample file to download and explore.

To the left you will see the formatted Excel file which uses a Pivot table. The view can be adjusted by selecting the year or moving the “year” field to a column within the Pivot table.

I have included all 3 files for Nunavut as it had the lowest turnout during the 2021 election.

To the right are files for Nunavut, feel free to download and explore.
